On the Creative Writing Process for Welcome Wagon

I currently work at Welcome Wagon and have been for the past 14 years. Thought I’d share about my creative writing process, writing business articles, and such.

Previously I have handled the company’s marketing and social media as well as the monthly newsletter called The Wagon News. I write articles for the newsletter that are posted on our website. Also, I co-authored an eBook titled: Small Business Success After COVID.

There are other types of writing too, such as corporate training and product development have been wonderful tools to give our sales team encouragement, product knowledge and sales tips for LEVELING UP!

My interests lie in providing useful and inspirational content for our clients, prospective clients, staff and anyone reading the articles.

It has been and continues to be a great experience writing for Welcome Wagon.

My creative process:

  • Start with a topic
  • Gather information on said topic
  • Research online and/or within personal notes
  • Take a few moments to gather thoughts
  • Write
  • Edit
  • Write some more – make sure there is a voice to the content, so it is a nice and easy read
  • Edit

The writing and editing part can take a few to several rounds. It’s important to stop at some point. I’ve heard artists, other writers, and musicians refer to this as well. It’s hard to let it go but you have to. Otherwise, you can get stuck in that loop and not get your content completed. Another thing I find useful to work with is deadlines. They give you a time frame to work in and can help you move the process along.

When I first started writing for the company, I’d worry if it was good. It just takes practice and refinement to learn discernment of what is good or not. If you have an editor or trusted source to give you honest feedback, that is helpful too. I like to say, it’s good to put another set of eyes on your writing.

Trust yourself, trust the process, and set about doing it. Once I get locked on a topic, the flow (of writing and ideas) follows. I'm sure you'll find that as well.

Here are some blogs I have written:
